Reflections: Spring 2015

The teacher understands a school is an organization based on history, culture, politics, and a social background. Teachers understand that a child is influenced through family, school, and sense of community; this will enhance the educational process. A teacher knows how to collaborate well with other adults in a way that is appropriate for the situation contributing to the support of the student.

I am an advocate for my students; it is as simple as that, which is why I am in the process of becoming a teacher in the first place. That is why I am at Ball State. My dream profession is to become a teacher, I have already taken responsibility for the fact that my job is to educate each new generation. I am a person who is determined to make school a better place for all students. I am a person who tries something new at least once. If it works then it is worth keeping. My personal philosophy is that something hard is always worth doing because it is a challenge. I then think if I take the easier or more predictable path, am I going to be happy?

A teacher is an advocate for the school he or she teaches. My goal is to work for a school that has a shared common goal as I do. I want to make a difference for all of my students, and as an advocate, I will be doing that. To be a good school a school needs to have the best interest for their students and the community. I want to work at a school that is so amazing that everyone wants to attend. I want to work at a school that shapes how my students are as individuals. As a teacher, it is my goal to be up to date on issue and policies that surround the environment I work. If I am not up to date how am I considered an advocate for my students if I do not know what I am advocating for.
