Reflections: Spring 2015

The teacher understands content and how content is organized based on curriculum. They understand that individual differences can influence ongoing development. Understanding the strengths and needs of each individual, the teacher knows how to adjust plans and responses based on these strengths and needs on an individual based level.

I love seeing my students stand in front of the classroom, with a smile on their face, doing what they love. Each student has a specific strength that he or she is just phenomenal at doing. My goal is always to push them a little further, extending this strength to help other student. If they are good and math, have them help others, and this is the same with English, Science, etc. One thing I have each of my students do is to make a chart. The chart shows what they want accomplished every month and the second is what goals do they want accomplished by the end of the year. I require my students to keep this goal sheet as a visual reminder of what they are working for, and what they promised they would do. This holds them accountable—the students are the ones who set the goals not me. Being a babysitter and being in a classroom has taught me that life is unpredictable. There is no concrete answer or method of doing something. No two kids are the same, one kid may need to hear everything straightforward; however, another kid will not respond to that method. I have learned that the key is to know your children, if you get to know them, you understand how to approach them based on what they need.

I am a teacher that wants to teach based on Indiana State curriculum and the school curriculum. I do not want to be a teacher that teaches based on a test learning is so much more. Curriculum based teaching is a path of knowledge that is wide open. An open world of knowledge is a relevant aspect of education to all students. I am a person who will do anything in order for someone to achieve his or her goal. I will change my teaching style, I will add resources, and I will modify or extend assignments and assessments if a student is struggling. There are millions of ways to teach a student. Schools are incorporating the use of technology in classroom. Technology is a weakness of mine I am not very tech-savvy. However, I am a fast and a willing learner, I will make it my job to learn everything that I can about incorporating technology into my classroom for everyday use.
