The National Center on Response to Intervention was established by the American Institutes for Research and researchers from Vanderbilt University and the University of Kansas through funding from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs. “The Center’s mission is to provide technical assistance to states and districts and building the capacity of states to assist districts in implementing proven models for RTI.” (“What is response,” 2010). As leading advocates for RTI implementation, the National Center on RTI is a valuable resource for those interested in understanding and implementing a Response to Intervention approach. The Center explains RTI:
- “RTI integrates assessment and intervention within a school-wide, multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and reduce behavior problems… with RTI, schools identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions, and adjust the intensity and nature of those interventions based on a student’s responsiveness.” (“What is response,” 2010).
