A recent article was written regarding a particular student who is not only gifted, but she is also an English Language Learner. Throughout this article, it not only discusses this particular young lady and her experiences, but it also talks about ELL students in general. The 17 year old student was fortunate to have a teacher when she was in the 4th grade that requested for her to be tested. The results allowed her to receive the services that she needed in order to gain an education that challenged her. A sad truth that was mentioned in the article was that many teachers have not been trained to identify ELL student as being gifted. Another aspect that was mentioned in the article was that ELL students are usually not even tested for being gifted and talented. With that, it is impossible to monitor how many students that are receiving these services are in gifted and talented programs.
