Testing Advisory Committee Raises Concerns Over ISTAR Test
The ISTAR assessment has made its first year of administration in Indiana schools. Students with cognitive disabilities took this test and a state testing committee is now testing its validity. The three tiers of ISTAR evaluate students at different levels. However, some believe that the test cannot accurately compare students between the three tiers. The three tiers are scored the same way even though that test different abilities. Ed Roeber, a member of the state’s technical advisory committee (TAC) said that they should be involved in reviewing the tests before they are administered. The TAC is currently looking for ways to improve this test.
