Using a learning

management system (LMS) in the classroom provides teachers with a wide

variety of features to support assessment of students.

I recently had the opportunity to attend ICE 2015, the Indiana Connected

Educators conference held at Noblesville High School. At the conference, I

attended a session that featured the LMS, itslearning. In this session “The

Hoosier LMS: Hands-on w/ itslearning” with Bryan Bennett, I learned the ins and

outs of the itslearning software, including how you can use LMS in the classroom

for assessment.

With itslearning, a teacher can give informal assessments to their students

with frequent checks for understanding using surveys and polls and can also

build a test or quiz for their students to take online. Teachers even have the

option to link tests to assignments so students can easily access and understand

learning objectives. The test questions can be aligned to course standards in

order to pull reports on student mastery of standards. The software offers a

variety of item types, including either/or, multiple choice, multiple response, short

answer, open answer, select from a list question, fill in the blank, match, order

and hotspot (click the picture). It also features a lock-down browser so that

students cannot access other websites or applications while taking their test.

Once the students have taken a test, teachers can give feedback to their

students in a variety of ways. They are able to give written, audio or even video

feedback to their students. This option allows teachers to provide specific,

constructive, actionable feedback using preferred learning styles to move

learners forward.

When students are given clear learning targets, frequent, meaningful

feedback, With learning management systems such as itslearning, teachers have

access to a variety of features that allow them to adapt teaching according to

student need, and advance learners through their learning journey.

For more information on ICE, visit their website http://www.iceindiana.org

Sierra Emilson Dual Major – Elementary and Special Education Ball State University Learning Management System – ICE Conference Online assessment is a powerful method to engage students, encourage […]

[8,21,4

post-467","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-adminstrators","category-speaker","category-classroom-teachers
["GET
