On November 8, 2016, Jennifer McCormick from Yorktown Community Schools won the seat of new state superintendent of public instruction. As of right now, she is focused on a few things before January. McCormick wants to build her department and prepare for the legislative session. She will also be discussing and determining a replacement for ISTEP. Additionally, she will create a strategy to implement the new federal Every Student Succeeds Act. Her biggest concern is what they are at \u201cwith the assessment\/accountability piece\u201d within the act. The act is due in March, but if the date gets pushed back, McCormick stated, \u201cthat may be a blessing in disguise for Indiana\u201d. We will have to wait until January to see what she will do for our department of education.<\/p>\n
