Values Affirmation & Eliminating Gender Gap

One assignment in our educational psychology course required us to to review a journal article and present it to the class.  I chose: http://www.lpl.arizona.edu/~tami/Sun/MRS_files/Science-2010-Miyake-1234-7%20copy.pdf for my review.  I have always been fascinated by women’s performance in the math and science fields, so this seemed a logical fit.

After a brief introduction,  I incorporated Nearpod, a learning response system, to both run the presentation to the class, as well as to obtain instant polling results from them.  The presentation may be viewed at: https://app.nearpod.com/#/?pin=6A99D39C1C69B67990C893D1298FC142-1

The further academic study of education falls under InTASC 9’s  professional learning standard.  HLP 4 was employed in this activity as I led the discussion.  It was interesting to see the different levels of engagement from other Fellows during this assignment as we each took turns presenting.  Even as graduate students we need a hook to pique our interest, and some type of interaction during a presentation to keep us focused.
