I began the Gas Laws unit wondering how to present Gas Law equations in a more engaging way. Mr. Smith suggested that we approach the discussion from an inquiry perspective using the new DataHub instruments at the school. We had used the DataHub during Gas Laws in Chemistry II, so I modified an activity that had been used with them to present and derive the Gas Laws for Chemistry I. Find Me a Solution, Please
The origin of this activity stemmed from myself graduating with a degree in chemistry, without ever calculating or making a 1.0 M solution. I felt that this was a disservice to myself, and vowed that my students wouldn’t have the same experience.
Values Affirmation & Eliminating Gender Gap
One assignment in our educational psychology course required us to to review a journal article and present it to the class. I have always been fascinated by women’s performance in the math and science fields, so this seemed a logical fit.

Rubric Design
My first rubric was designed to accompany a unit on molecular bonding, which was also the basis for my unit map.
I utilized the rgrade rubric system to generate the rubric. I had never used the rgrade system before, but once I established that rubrics can only generated under the instructor function, I was able to easily compose the rubric and to help other Fellows do so, too.

Discussion: Special Ed v. Bilingual Ed
I lead the class discussion over two readings covering the areas of both special education and bilingual education, including Hochschild & Scovronick’s chapter on separation and inclusion from their book The American Dream and Public Schools and Olneck’s article “What Have Immigrants Wanted From American Schools? What Do They Want Now? Historical and Contemporary Perspectives on Immigrants, Language and American Schooling.” I offered the group a list of 35 traits of special ed and bilingual ed and asked the class to divide them according to what they felt were controversies and successes of each, without repeating topics. The relay of this information was done electronically, with a goal to construct a real time web of concepts utilizing bubble.us to showcase a potential technology to my cohort fellows. LoggerPro3 Video Analysis
We used the video analysis component of Vernier’s LoggerPro3 software to collect data from both a constant motion vehicle. The video was advanced frame by frame and data points were selected.
