{"id":32,"date":"2015-05-26T12:33:55","date_gmt":"2015-05-26T16:33:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/akhouck\/?page_id=32"},"modified":"2016-04-16T13:57:51","modified_gmt":"2016-04-16T17:57:51","slug":"standard-five","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/akhouck\/intasc-reflections\/intasc-standards\/standard-five\/","title":{"rendered":"Standard Five"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Standard #5 &#8211; Application of Content<br \/>\n<\/strong>The teacher candidate understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.<\/p>\n<p><em>Summer 2015:<\/em> My goal as an educator is to make my students aware of their impact on the global world, and the\u00a0interconnectedness off all people. \u00a0If I offer my learners authentic situations to explore, such as problem based learning,\u00a0I hope that they will\u00a0become critical thinkers and question their surroundings when decisions need to be made that will impact their lives. \u00a0By helping them think beyond their own environment, I hope to offer them a lifelong curiosity of the world and the knowledge that they have the power to change it.<\/p>\n<p><em>Autumn 2015:<\/em> \u00a0We attempt to use inquiry based learning methods as much as possible in our classroom.\u00a0 We have planned a problem based learning unit for our dual credit chemistry II course involving preventing blight in their town by removing abandoned and dilapidated houses, and determining the costs, both economical and social, as well as environmental concerns surrounding this.
