Bilingual Ed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I lead the class discussion\u00a0over two readings covering the areas of both special education and bilingual education, including Hochschild &amp; Scovronick&#8217;s chapter on separation and inclusion from their book <em>The American Dream and Public Schools<\/em> and Olneck&#8217;s article <em>&#8220;What Have Immigrants Wanted From American Schools? What Do They Want Now? \u00a0Historical and Contemporary Perspectives on Immigrants, Language and American Schooling.&#8221; \u00a0<\/em>I offered the group a list of 35 traits of special ed and bilingual ed and asked the class to divide them according to what they felt were controversies and successes of each,\u00a0without repeating topics. \u00a0 The relay\u00a0of this information was done electronically, with a goal to construct\u00a0a real time web of concepts utilizing bubble.us to showcase a potential technology to my cohort fellows. \u00a0The map that they constructed during the discussion is below:<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_327\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-327\" style=\"width: 1279px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/akhouck\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-2015-07-06-at-10.34.54-AM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-327 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/akhouck\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-2015-07-06-at-10.34.54-AM.jpg\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-07-06 at 10.34.54 AM\" width=\"1279\" height=\"607\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/akhouck\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-2015-07-06-at-10.34.54-AM.jpg 1279w, https:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/akhouck\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-2015-07-06-at-10.34.54-AM-300x142.jpg 300w, https:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/akhouck\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-2015-07-06-at-10.34.54-AM-1024x486.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1279px) 100vw, 1279px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-327\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bubble concept map.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I felt more confident leading this discussion than during any other presentation this term. \u00a0I think this was the result\u00a0of all of those chemistry mini lessons that I taught, coupled with the fact that I had a good hold on the material. \u00a0I am finding that the more well versed I am with topics, the more confident I feel leading discussions on them.<\/p>\n<p>HLP 2 was utilized to its fullest extent in order to complete this assignment. \u00a0It was my first attempt at leading a discussion with this group, and it was nice to be able to guide the discussion so that everyone had the opportunity to speak. InTASC 3 was used for this discussion as I divided my classmates up and presented them ideas to discuss and sort according successes and controversies of special ed and bilingual ed. \u00a0InTASC 5\u00a0overlapped with InTASC 3 here in that differing perspectives collaborated in completing this task while InTASC 10 was covered by myself facilitating\u00a0the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>It was interesting to watch the other Fellows present their readings to the class, and seeing what discussion techniques worked best. \u00a0I felt that each one of our presentations represented our personalities well, and in turn our future teaching styles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I lead the class discussion\u00a0over two readings covering the areas of both special education and bilingual education, including Hochschild &amp; Scovronick&#8217;s chapter on separation and inclusion from their book The &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/akhouck\/2015\/07\/07\/discussion-special-ed-v-bilingual-ed\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Discussion: Special Ed v.
