Gathering Information About Children Through a Variety of Ways
Latin derivative of the word “assessment” is “to sit beside and get to know”…Let’s get to know our children by using an ongoing process of gathering information through observation & regular documentation then sharing & requesting input from a variety of professionals. We will look at the teaching process of using assessment, observation, documentation, standards and curriculum to best evaluate and change our teaching skills and enviroment to provide quality early childhood experiences and growth in children.
Challenges or Obstacles:
- Challenges occur when we do not meld the assessment, observation, documentation with the curriculum and standards. We will look at ways to improve our assessment processes.
Benefits and Successes:
- One of the benefits is effectively identifing children who may be in need of specialized services. As well as planning constructive instruction for individuals and groups of children.
- Evaluation of our program and measuring how well we are meeting goals for children.
- And finally our assessment process can identify program needs for improvement and staff development needs.
