David Berliner, Regents Professor Emeritus of Education at Arizona State University will speak at BSU February, 5 2015.
Berliner has authored more than 200 articles, books and chapters in the fields of educational psychology, teacher education, and educational policy, including the best-seller The Manufactured Crisis (co-authored with B. J. Biddle) and six editions of the textbook Educational Psychology (co-authored with N. L. Gage). He also co-authored Putting Research to Work in your School with his wife, Ursula Casanova, Collateral Damage: How High-stakes Testing Corrupts American Education with S. L. Nichols, and edited the Handbook of Educational Psychology (with R. C. Calfee) and Perspectives on Instructional Time (with C. Fisher). His most recent book, 50 Myths and Lies that Threaten America’s Public Schools, co-authored with Gene Glass, was published in March, 2014.
Berliner is a member of the National Academy of Education and the International Academy of Education, a fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Science, and a past president of both the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the Division of Educational Psychology of the American Psychological Association (APA). He is the winner several awards, including the E. L. Thorndike award from APA for lifetime achievement in educational psychology, the distinguished contributions award from AERA, the prestigious Friend of Education award from the National Education Association, and the Brock International Prize for Distinguished contributions to education.
Berliner follows in the tradition of distinguished speakers giving lectures at BSU. In 2014, Dr. Yong Zhao spoke on the challenges of Education in the 21st century.
