Power Up! is an online “convening space” for parents and the community agencies that serve parents to support the educational development of children. Led by Dr. Sheron Fraser-Burgess and originally funded by the Emerging Media Initiative, Power Up!, is a partnership between the CTE and EMI to create an interactive web portal with multiple forms of media engagement for parents. Dr. Matthew Stuve co-authored the grant with Dr. Fraser-Burgess and, with the staff and students in the CTE iStudio, designed the portal and its collaboration tools. Students in Dr. Fraser-Burgess’ EDFON 420 and Dr. Stuve’s EDTEC 485 developed podcast video interviews with parents in the community. Those videos are available in the Power Up! portal as core content to engage parents and promote their use of the portal, its discourse tools, which include blogs and a Second Life virtual space for parent support.
