Reflection 2016:
The teacher seeks different leadership opportunities and become a responsible and positive role model for student’s education. This will be done through collaboration with other educators, family members, and community members—ensuring the growth and advancement in students learning, as well their own advance in their profession.
As a teacher, one of the best things that you can do for yourself is to understand and get acclimated the at school you are working at based on history, culture, politics, and a social background (of the school and those in it). When a teacher understands that children are heavily influenced by their family, the school, and the community they are a part of; a teacher will better understand why collaboration with parents and community members is an appropriate method, when talking about how to support students. A limitation of this though, is something as simple as a school not providing or supporting me, in my decisions. For example, when creating an IEP—if there is one person who is constantly shutting down my ideas of accommodations, it will be extremely hard for me to be a successful advocate for a child.
I am first and foremost a teacher as well as an advocate for my students; it is as simple as that. It is the reason that I am at Ball State, becoming a teacher in the first place. My dream profession is to become a teacher; I have already taken responsibility for the fact that my job is to educate each new generation of future leaders. I am a person who is determined to make schools a better place for all students. I am the type of person who has to try something new, at least once and it if works, then I have to heavily consider that it is a method worth keeping. My personal philosophy is that something hard is always worth doing because it is a challenge. My goal is to work for a school that has a shared common goals and a set of beliefs and values that I have. In order for a school to be successfully, I fully believe that each and every person working there needs to have the best interest for their students and the community. As a teacher, it is my goal to be up to date on issue and policies that surround the environment I work. If I am not up to date how am I considered an advocate for my students if I do not know what I am advocating for.
