Purpose and Procedures. The purpose of this study is to explore pre-services teachers’ reactions to education-focused political media including, but not limited to, topics such as the teacher shortage, recent government bills that affect education, or COVID-19 safety procedures in school. The study will examine what future educators think about political media, if they choose to consume political media, and how they consume it. Additionally, the current study wishes to see how education-focused political media affects pre-service teachers emotionally.
If you choose to participate, you will complete an online survey about your demographics, your views on political media, and your news consumption habits. Next, you will indicate how you feel about education-focused political media topic and complete an anxiety measure. Finally, you will be asked to complete open-ended questions regarding how political media related to education and schools makes you feel. Your participation should take between 15-30 minutes.
After completing the survey, you will be asked to participate in an optional follow-up 30-minute interview over Zoom to discuss more about your experiences with political media and recent political topics. The interview will be held with the student researcher named above. Your responses will remain confidential. Individuals who participate in the interview will have an equal opportunity to receive a $30 electronic gift card.
