{"id":532,"date":"2019-04-18T00:55:01","date_gmt":"2019-04-17T19:55:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/sonar\/?p=532"},"modified":"2020-12-01T23:31:07","modified_gmt":"2020-12-01T18:31:07","slug":"measuring-computational-thinking-of-college-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/espace.bsu.edu\/sonar\/532\/","title":{"rendered":"Measuring Computational Thinking of College Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>IRB Number: 1486578-1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is this study about?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The purpose<\/strong> of this study is to measure of Computational Thinking (CT) and the factors that might influence the development of CT.&nbsp; CT is a set of cognitive skills for conceptualizing, modeling and solving problems that draw on the concepts and techniques fundamental to computer science, but not necessarily enacted in formal computer programming or systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who is eligible?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You must be an\nundergraduate Ball State students or recent graduates of Ball State\u2019s\nundergraduate CS program, AND<\/li><li>You are at\nleast 18 years old, AND<\/li><li>You can read\nand write English fluently.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to participate?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>This\nis an online survey<\/strong> in which you will complete a series of questions\nabout your educational background and your interests and skills related to CT.\nThen you will be asked to complete 15 on-screen problems that may require significant\nconcentration.<\/li><li>You will need access to the internet. It is recommended you do this survey on a laptop or desktop computer or on\na tablet (iOS or Android). A smartphone is <strong>not<\/strong> recommended since much of\nthe content needs a large screen to view. <\/li><li>While the\nsurvey is online, you are encouraged to have paper and pencil on hand to work\nout your responses to the online questions.&nbsp;\n<\/li><li><strong>You will not be graded or evaluated in\nany way. <\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Time\ncommitment:<\/strong> 30-75 minutes.<\/li><li><strong>Research\nCredits:<\/strong> 2.0 research credits are available to participants in undergraduate Educational\nPsychology (EDPS) courses that require research participation.&nbsp; For computer science courses that have\ncourse-based requirements for research and professional participation, this\nstudy can count as one of many options. <\/li><li><strong>The survey is anonymous and voluntary.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have questions, including having the study\u2019s research team come and facilitate this research participation in your course, please contact the principal investigator, Dr. Matthew Stuve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in participating and <strong>ready to start,<\/strong> click on the link below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bsu.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_06aOJJO7qJFgetn\">Go to the survey&#8230;<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OPTIONAL: For students seeking research credit for participating this in this study&#8230;<\/strong>&nbsp;At the end of the survey, you will be prompted to complete a credit request form with SONAR. &nbsp;This will generate an email confirmation of participation that you can provide your instructor.&nbsp; The form is anonymous to the researcher(s) in this study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IRB Number: 1486578-1 What is this study about?
