Ways to Enhance Teacher Development
Sustained professional development time has been curtailed due to changes in school scheduling. In addition, there is an online course management tool (MBC) that was underutilized. Some professional development materials and discussion topics were presented via MBC. Teachers responded to pertinent topics such as cultural competency, engaging children from poverty, mastery learning, and mathematical practices.
Challenges or Obstacles:
- Using technology for this type of learning is new to many teachers.
- It has taken some time for everyone to feel comfortable with the format.
- It is difficult to get the same type of discussion going electronically as it is in traditional face-to-face meetings.
Benefits and Successes:
- Using MBC moves classroom teachers into thinking digitally.
- Allows for new learning that otherwise might be missed because of scheduling.
Additional Information:
There has been 100% participation online and face-to-face discussions have been sparked at school.
